History
-with British Wars > Popular Revolution (1827-9), inspires movement across Jamaica
-a slave rebellion emerges
-when it hits it causes panic in Jamaican planter class
-especially since new regime is self-evidently antislavery
-big gigantic threat, though sufficiently united white elite and mulattoes not going on board
-fearing British conquest or new slave revolt, House of Assembly decides to call American aid
-this guy ) after having been court marshalled in 1829 and resigning leads expedition to aid it in 1830
-succeeds in this goal esp. since British navy way weaker now and held up in many things
-with that Jamaica becomes independent and declares itself a republic
